How to ask someone what their profession is or what they are studying.

        ¿Estudias o trabajas?Can you guess what word means “study”?You´re right!          Estudiar (study)          Trabajar  (work)When meeting someone for the first time you might want to ask some basic questions.What are some questions that we have already learned, do you remember?-What is your name?-Where are you from?-What do you do?We already know how to say if we work or study.If the person works, what would be the next question?What do you do for a living?OrWhat is your job?OrWhere do you work?Regarding work, you might be interested not only knowing where someone works but also what their profession is.          -¿A qué te dedicas?What do you do?          -¿Cuál es tu profesión?What is your profession?Can you think of the different names of jobs in Spanish?

 
• Soy maestra/o - I am a teacher
 
• Soy mesera/o - I am a waitress/waiter
 
• Soy doctor/a - I am a doctor
 
• Soy diseñador/a - I am a designer
 
• Soy escritor/a - I am a writer
 

As you can see, we use the verb “ser” when we talk about professions.Here is a list of other professions that might be useful for you to know:

 
• vendedor/a - salesperson
 
• Gerente - manager
 
• Ingeniero - Engineer
 
• Dentista -dentist
